Greg Doucette on Being a Natural Athlete

The IFBB Pro coach, popularly known for his no-nonsense approach to fitness, addressed the myth about muscle loss during a fit journey break. In his YouTube video, he thrashed the common misconception about losing muscle gains.

“Even if you lose some of those gains, which is very difficult to do… you’re not going to lose any muscle.”

Doucette brings up a hard pill to swallow for weightlifters: Steroids and SARMs. Depending on the aforementioned makes it super easy to lose gains. Quitting the substances leads to rapid muscle loss & undoing much of the progress. Natural bodybuilding methods are a better solution as shortcuts only lead to fails and regrets.

“You worked hard for it… you did it 100% natural… and you will keep this progress for years,” he emphasizes.

Addressing people who indulge in quick muscle gains, he states that the idea of rapid gains might be enticing. It leads to disaster once you quit.

Greg Doucette and Bodybuilding Rookies

In a recent YouTube video, gym-goers are one of Doucette’s points of call, especially those with very poor form when it comes to lifting.

“I’m saying probably half the people in the gym are just going through the motions. Trust me, I look at people in the gym. I watch them lift bodybuilders. People who are really serious. You know, it’s not you; it’s the average person.”

Further, the mindset of an average gym-goer was another of his worries as he addressed it.

An average person may want to gain 20 lbs of muscle or lose 20 lbs of fat this year. It may even be his first year training, and that’s what he expects. Thus, they are going to the gym, training faster than normal in motions they have never been in, which is overworking their bodies.

Doucette debunked a myth and explained, “Many people have heard you don’t need to train that hard. Three IRs, three reps in reserve, that’s plenty. If you train too hard, you’re not going to make the gains because, well, you’re natural. This is BS. You can train harder than that.”
