Here's What the Ford Bronco's Six Trim Levels Are All About (2024)

Here's What the Ford Bronco's Six Trim Levels Are All About (1)

The 2021 Ford Bronco won't debut as just one single model with some options — this is a full, extended family of SUVs, and it even has a smaller sibling in the form of the Bronco Sport. Right off the bat, Ford will launch six different "series" of the big Bronco at once, in two- and four-door form, each one offering a different look and a different level of off-road ability. And it has even added a seventh series as a bonus, mixing equipment and styling elements from the six others, that will offer plenty of comfort, tech and off-road features to the first 3,500 buyers. Ford's Broncos are back, and it's more like an entire team of football players, (but not the Denver Broncos).

Time to meet the players.

1

Bronco Base: Starting Price $29,995

View Full GalleryFord

This will be a model for purists, or a clean canvas for customizers looking to build out their own Bronco, and it could prove to be a popular item for those looking to get into a new Bronco by sticking close to its starting price. Still, the Base model with its 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine paired with a seven-speed manual will be well stocked with everything minimalists expect: Cloth seats, 16-inch silver-painted steel wheels wearing 30-inch P255/70R16 all-season tires, an 8-inch touchscreen, removable roof and doors, and a terrain management system with five G.O.A.T modes. Still, there will be some opportunities for upgrades: Ford will offer a 2.7-liter V6 in this series as an option paired with its 10-speed automatic, and an advanced 4x4 system with automatic on-demand engagement.

Buyers will also be able to select the Sasquatch package as as option, which adds front and rear locking diffs, 35-inch LT315/70R17 tires with 17-inch beadlock capable wheels, 4.7:1 final drive ratio, high-clearance fender flares and Bilstein position-sensitive monotube shocks. As the off-road friendly package, the Sasquatch is expected to be very popular on this model and across the entire range.

Bronco Big Bend: Starting price $34,480

Positioned just above Base, this Bronco series will offer a wider array of comfort features in addition to a few more convenience and tech items. This should prove to be one of the more popular but still inexpensive trims, offering a slew of features buyers in this segment expect but without a high sticker price and without going overboard on options. Big Bend will offer all the standard items of the Base series, but will give buyers a lift to 17-inch carbonized gray-painted aluminum wheels wearing 32-inch P255/75R17 all-terrain tires, LED fog lamps, a carbonized gray grille, privacy glass, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear shift knob. Those who pick the Big Bend series will be able to upgrade to the 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine with its 10-speed automatic, remote start, heated front seats, the Sasquatch package and the Mid package, and advanced 4x4 with automatic on-demand engagement.

What's the Mid package? It adds remote start, heated front seats, a reverse sensing system, a rear view camera with backup assist, illuminated sun visors, an auto-dimming mirror, Co-Pilot360 safety features, dual-zone climate control and a few other items.

Bronco Black Diamond: Starting price $37,545

View Full GalleryFord

One of the middle flavors of the Bronco, Black Diamond will offer more gear and capability for outdoor adventurers, with more serious off-road hardware and a marine-grade washout interior. Yes, this will be one of the more hardcore trim levels, and it should prove popular with those who intend to use their Broncos out in the wild just about every weekend.

Black Diamond will build upon the Big Bend series, offering a heavy-duty modular front bumper as a standard item, along with a powder-coated steel rear bumper. This series will also feature heavy-duty bash plates and rock rails as standard equipment, in addition to 17-inch black-painted steel wheels wearing 32-inch LT265/70R17 all-terrain tires. This series will also feature auxiliary switches in an overhead console for custom equipment, as well as rubberized washout flooring and vinyl trimmed seats. The Sasquatch package and the Mid package will be optional items, as will the 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine with its 10-speed automatic and advanced 4x4 with automatic on-demand engagement.

4

Bronco Outer Banks: Starting price $40,450

View Full GalleryFord

Designed to be recognizable and stylish, Outer Banks should prove popular with those who value design in their outdoor adventure gear. This series of the Bronco will offer body-colored door handles, fender flares and mirror caps, along with powder-coated tube steps, LED headlights and taillights, and heated cloth front-row bucket seats. The Outer Banks Broncos will ride on 18-inch black-painted machined-face aluminum wheels wearing 32-inch P255/70R18 all-terrain tires, and will include the Mid package as standard equipment. As with the rest of the range, the Outer Banks trim will build upon the series below it, which means it will include all the Big Bend items. But as optional features it will also offer leather seats — this is the trim where leather appears — along with the Lux and High packs.

The High package adds a 12-inch touchscreen, sideview mirror LED approach lights, additional sound insulation, a 360-degree camera, a forward sensing system and all the goodies from the Mid package.

The Lux package, on the other hand, adds a heated steering wheel, a wireless charging pad, voice-activated touchscreen navigation system, evasive steering assist, a 10-speaker B&O sound system, adaptive cruise control, two extra USB ports and all the items from the High package.

Bronco Wildtrack: Starting price $50,370

View Full GalleryFord

One of the two higher trims, the Wildtrack series will offer some serious desert crossing gear paired with the 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine as the standard powerplant. In this Bronco buyers will find a terrain management system with seven G.O.A.T modes including Baja, 35-inch tires, advanced 4x4 with automatic on-demand engagement, a modular Shadow Black-painted hard top, cloth heated front row bucket seats, carpeted flooring and the Sasquatch and Mid packages. Leather-trimmed seats will be an option in this series, along with the High and Lux packages. Ford calls Wildtrack the "all-out desert runner," and it gets its own hood graphic.

This series represents about a $10,000 jump in price over Outer Banks, and this is perhaps where the casual adventurer and the hardcore off-road enthusiast are separated.

6

Bronco Badlands: Starting price $43,590

Badlands is one of the top two trims, and this is where the serious off-road exterior hardware gets paired with a heavy-duty suspension, including a front stabilizer bar disconnect. This series of the Bronco wears 17-inch carbonized gray-painted machined-face aluminum wheels wrapped in 33-inch LT285/70R17 tires, and features a suspension system unique to this model. The Badlands Bronco also includes a heavy-duty modular bumper up front, and a powder-coated steel rear bumper.

This series also includes rubberized washout flooring and marine-grade vinyl-trimmed seats, and auxiliary switches in the overhead console as standard items. Leather-trimmed seats are option on this model, as are the four main packages: Lux, High, Mid and Sasquatch.

Bronco First Edition: Starting price $60,800

View Full GalleryFord

Ford has added a special First Series trim to the mix, and it's a mishmash of several options found on the six main series. First Series is based on the mechanicals of the Badlands model, but has an interior from the Outer Banks Bronco, while the exterior is from the Wildtrack model. If it sounds like the everything bagel, that's because it's a bit like that. The First Series also includes a safari bar, unique First Edition hood and body graphics, a black-painted hardtop, leather-trimmed seats, and the Lux and Sasquatch packages.

Just 3,500 examples will be built, and they'll be offered in just four colors: Cactus Gray, Area 51, Rapid Red or Cyber Orange Metallic. This will be the priciest Bronco on the menu, but it won't stick around for long. In fact, reservations are already full.

Jay Ramey

Jay Ramey grew up around very strange European cars, and instead of seeking out something reliable and comfortable for his own personal use he has been drawn to the more adventurous side of the dependability spectrum. Despite being followed around by French cars for the past decade, he has somehow been able to avoid Citroën ownership, judging them too commonplace, and is currently looking at cars from the former Czechoslovakia. Jay has been with Autoweek since 2013.
